Worrywart? Do not worry about your life...Luke 12:22-26

"Then Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?’” (Luke 12:22-26, NIV)

I find myself worrying a lot sometimes and on the other hand, I just don't worry about things that I should be worried about.

Worrying is a vicious cycle that has no end because one thought leads to the next which leads to the next and it goes on and on and on. But what if we decide not to worry about things and actually took all our worries to Jesus Christ? Wouldn't that be
liberating?

When I was a teenager, one of my school mates had a baby and to us then it was a big no no because our parents would "kill" us! When she had her little girl, she saw her as a burden so she would leave the baby with her mom while she would hang out with friends, go partying, go to work and do everything and more that she would do when she wasn't pregnant. She saw the baby as a burden and would leave her with her mother every chance she got. She trusted her mother to take care of her little "burden" while she enjoyed life. She wasn't wrong in trusting her mother since she was an excellent mother to her granddaughter. She was a pro at making sure that baby had everything she needed.

Now when it comes to God, do we trust Him enough to leave our burdens, our real burdens, with Him? Like the teen mom considered her mother to be a pro, can we look on God as a pro? She had total confidence in her mother who she witnessed throughout the course of her life taking care of her and made sure she was well kept, a woman of 50 years. So what about God, who has shown us throughout the course of history thousands and thousands and years that He is able to deliver us of our burdens? Thousands of years or even millions! Compare that to 50 years. Does it equate? No it does not!

Who do we trust to alleviate the loads of life, those worries we have, those problems we just don't know how to solve, that we think about over and over again. God is the answer!

In the midst of worries, block that mental spiral of confusion and smile and enjoy your life because you trust God to take care of it. He is that pro who knows it all and can handle it all. This scripture tells us not to worry. If God takes care of the birds, don't you think He will take care of you? If a teen mother who trust her mom to take care of her child so she can enjoy her life. Shouldn't we too leave our burdens with God and enjoy our lives?

Sometimes when we give up those burdens or worries to God, we then don't completely let go and hold on to it thinking that God may need a hand in solving or rectifying our problems. Let it go and Let God!

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Phil 4:6-7

I am also a worrier. So much so that I wrote a book on it to see if doing the research would help. Indeed, it does. But I'm a work-in-progress. Worriers may want to check out my book; I still do. It's called THE WORRYWART'S PRAYER BOOK. It's filled with Scripture, affirmations, anecdotes and prayers to help worrywarts get off the worry-go-round and trust God more. My favorite: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea." Psalm 46:1, 2.

I also have a blog (and I worry that I don't keep it current enough), called THE WORRYWART'S CORNER, which might help worriers. Meantime, remember, God's in charge so give all your worries to Him. He's the only one Who can make any sense
