Matthew 5 - Believers are Salt and Light

In Matthew 5:13-16, Jesus sermon continues with comparing believers as Salt and Light.

13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
In today's world, there is a constant search for purpose and meaning of this life. As believers, we should know our purpose, we should know who the Lord has called us to be and

Matthew 5 The Last Beatitude

Jesus' sermon on the mount addresses so many topics for us as believers and for the non believers as well. In Matthew 5, Jesus starts with the Beautitudes and in this account by Matthew, I want to focus on the last beautitude that He spoke on.

11 “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Persecution comes in many forms and at times we may not see it for what it is. To persecute is to harrass, oppress, torment, afflict, torture, annoy and trouble someone persistently. But Jesus says "Blessed are you" when

Matthew 4 - The Battle of The Word

Matthew 4 tells not only of Jesus being tempted by the devil but also the beginning of his ministry.

The very first verse starts off by saying, "Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil." This verse here conveys that this temptation was inevitable and almost a right of passage for Jesus, seeing that he was led up by the Spirit. This occurred right after his baptism which further illustrates that this was something that Jesus had to do. Possibly to show us that he himself was not immune to the temptations of

Matthew 3 - Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!

In Matthew 3, John was preaching and baptizing people in the wilderness telling them to "Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at Hand" - Matthew 3:2. All the people of Judea and the regions around Jordan were baptized and they confessed their sins Matthew 3: 5-6.

When the Pharisees and Sadducees came to John's baptism, he said,
“Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore

Matthew Chapter 2 - Gifts given to Jesus at birth.

Matthew 2 describes what happened after Jesus' birth in Bethlehem and how the wise men were on a search for Jesus, The King of the Jews. They went to Herod the king, thinking that a king should be born in a palace but however he was not there. Herod and all of Jerusalem was

Matthew Chapter 1 - A prostitute in the genealogy of Jesus...?

In Matthew Chapter 1 it starts with the genealogy of Jesus Christ and what stood out for me was this verse.

5 Salmon begot Boaz by Rahab, Boaz begot Obed by Ruth, Obed begot Jesse

Rahab was the prostitute who helped Joshua's spies when they came into Jericho. She helped them from being caught and they stayed there with her. This same prostitute later married one of the spies, Salmon and had a son, Boaz who married Ruth and they had Obed who had

Reading the Word of God

Reading God's word is enjoyable. In this life we need to keep our focus on God. It is His words that we need to encourage, motivate and to keep us going. God's word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. We need His word to guide and direct us and when we keep our focus on Him and His words, we can't go wrong.

Sometimes we get so frustrated, depressed, agitated by things and situations in this life but all of the things that we struggle with will pass away but God's word will still stand! The daily struggles that we go through each day are not more important than God's word and it's through His word that we know how to deal with issues that we face on a daily basis. Let's strive to learn more of God's word and strive to meditate of his word as they are the Words of Life.

I encourage you to subscribe to the latest posts and commentaries of the scriptures and to send your comments and any questions you may have. We look forward to hearing from you.

Let's learn together! God bless you!

“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” Luke 19:40

Jesus said these words to the Pharisees who wanted him to rebuke his disciples for praising God. Jesus' reply was pretty simple, If they don't do it, the stones will! Jesus knew that he was so worthy of praise, the works of his father in heaven was so worthy of praise that praise was mandatory, regardless of the source!

The Lord God is worthy of our praise! The disciples were praising God joyfully and in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen Jesus perform. They said, "Blessed is the king

Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD. (Ps 150:6)

PRAISE THE LORD!!!

Lord I praise You because You are my God. I praise You because there is none like You in all the earth. I praise You because You have brought me up from the pit. I praise You for loving me through it all. I praise You for being there for me when I felt alone and didn't have anyone. I praise You, Yahweh, your name is above all other names. I praise you for my family. I praise you for my boyfriend and his family. I praise you for my loved ones. I praise you for my friends. I praise you for

TRUST

That simple word is by no means a simple fiat. Has anyone ever told you "Trust me," and then didn't prove themselves trustworthy? How about someone you trusted, totally violated your trust and left you in heartbreak? How about learning to trust someone being something new to you, to find out everything they told you was a lie and everything you thought was the truth was a lie?

On the other hand have you ever been untrustworthy? Have you ever

Happy New Year!! 2 Corinthians 5:17

"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17

We all have New Year Resolutions, things we have been trying to accomplish but didn't get a chance to in 2010 or things that we see as new ventures in this new year. Let us put them before God and seek Him first knowing that all will be added unto us.

But what about the things that we have done maybe in the previous year(s) that we really need forgiveness for and repentance? I love this scripture because it lets us no that the former
